Almost a year ago, I self-published a little book on email design called Modern HTML Email. Since then, it has gone on to sell around 1100 copies.
Modern HTML Email walks you through the logistics of email marketing before taking a step-by-step approach to designing a responsive email template. I’ve heard from a number of people that they use it as an introduction to email design for their teams. While I’m proud of Modern HTML Email, I still think of it as just that—an introduction to email design.
But, there is so much more to email design today. I only touched on some of the techniques, quirks, and hacks involved in email design in Modern HTML Email. And, since joining an amazing team, I’ve learned even more about email. Especially with the help of a growing community. Now, I want to pass that knowledge along to everyone else. So…
I’m writing a new book: Professional Email Design.
Whereas Modern HTML Email was a gentle introduction to email marketing and design, Professional Email Design will go into all of the gory details. There won’t be much talk of email marketing strategy (maybe a third book?). This one’s for the people in the weeds, slinging tables all day long. Professional Email Design will go over all the code. ALL THE CODE!!! All of the quirks, the hacks to deal with them, and the best techniques for pulling off pretty much anything in an email.
Now all that’s left to do is write the damned thing. I’m shooting for releasing it sometime this fall, most likely around November or December.
