The Intermittent Newsletter

Here's what I've been up to and interested in lately…

Reframing Growth

a frame around growth charts

By default, I have ethical qualms with high-growth business strategies. But lately, I've been reshaping my opinions around growth. Although I still think the growth at all costs mentality that underpins the tech industry is harmful, my thoughts on the idea of growth have evolved. Here's how.

Things of Interest

I really like this pros and cons list from Lynn Fisher of &yet on conference speaking. It's refreshing to see an honest take on conference talks and everything that goes into them. They are a lot of work, something most people don't fully realize.

Designing for accessibility is not that hard.

Finally, some excellent advice from the Think Inclusive blog on what not to say to an autistic person (which can be extrapolated out to any marginalized group, really).

The fear of judgement that is associated with being perceived as weak or inadequate can be paralyzing. Instead of risking that, many prefer to put up imaginary walls and avoid vulnerability altogether. Instead of leading to security and confidence, avoiding vulnerability can lead to silence, regret, and unfulfilled potential.
