Auntie Aja on Abstracts: You Can Do Better

I’ve been going through a ton of speaking proposals for Litmus Live, so this post on improving your talk abstract from Aja Hammerly is very, very relevant.

Speaking proposals are just like any other marketing material: put the value on the user, not the provider. And yes, a proposal is marketin. You’re marketing your talk and ideas. When you focus on yourself or your company in your proposal, you’re doing yourself a disservice. You want to make it clear to organizers that you are solely there to help attendees learn something valuable, something that will directly improve their work and lives. That’s it. Put all the focus on that.
